TAKEN focuses on solving the cases of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People in Canada, and honouring their stories

Winnipeg, Manitoba  (April 15, 2025)— Eagle Vision is proud to announce that production has wrapped on the fifth season of acclaimed true crime documentary series TAKEN. After a four-year hiatus, the 13 x half-hour doc-series, returns for its highly anticipated fifth season, reigniting its mission to shed light on the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) in Canada. The series, which shot across Canada, is expected to air on APTN and APTN Languages in 2026.“TAKEN not only raises awareness of the ongoing injustices Indigenous people face but also seeks justice and answers for those who have gone missing or been murdered. This series ensures their stories are told with dignity, honoring who they are as individuals, loved and deeply missed by family, friends, and community,” says Director and Showrunner Dinae Robinson. “By sharing their truths, we shed light on the broader fight for justice while highlighting the critical work being done by community advocates, political leaders, allies, and law enforcement to create change.”In 2019, TAKEN concluded its fourth season after sharing the stories of 60 missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, men, boys, and Two-Spirit people. That same year, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Canada released its Calls for Justice, a comprehensive action plan demanding systemic change. Despite this historic Canadian moment, little progress has been made. The violence continues, and Indigenous families and communities are still left searching for answers. The TAKEN team is led by Host, Executive Producer and Co-Creator Lisa Meeches, OM, CM, Showrunner, Executive Producer, Writer and Director Dinae Robinson (True Story), Co-Creator, Executive Producer, Writer and Director Rebecca Gibson and Co-Creator and Executive Producer Kyle Irving OM. Other episodic writers on the series include: Justina Neepin, Jessica Landry and Ivana Yellowback, and episodic directors include: Kane Kirton, Katarina Ziervogel, Ivana Yellowback, and Sandra (Sam) Medd. Justin Delorme’s score pairs with the Cris Derksen-composed theme, “New Woman Song”. The Anishinaabemowin version is hosted by Vera Houle. The goals are clear for all involved - to solve these cases, to raise awareness for the work being done to create safety and systemic change, and to honour those who have been lost and, hopefully, to bring them home. TAKEN confronts head-on the search for answers, the clues that link these stories, and the hope that this epidemic of violence against Indigenous peoples will end. TAKEN focuses on the story of one, and occasionally two connected missing or murdered Indigenous people per episode. Using gripping interviews with loved ones left behind, emotionally riveting reenactments, breathtaking cinematography that showcases the beauty and the darkness of our nation, as well as photos, video, and sometimes audio of the missing women themselves, TAKEN sheds light on these cases. Importantly, each episode tells the story of every individual's lives - the people and things they loved, the dreams they had, and the legacy they left behind. TAKEN originally aired on APTN and CBC and over the years has been shown around the world on channels including Tubi, 7Plus, APTN lumi, Madman, Alchimie, Roku, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment’s Crackle, Dooya, Compact Media, Curiosity, Total Crime, Crime Time and many more. With the support of family members, community leaders, elders and knowledge keepers, law enforcement, politicians, academics, and more, TAKEN will continue to share these stories from coast to coast to coast in its fifth season. Filming for TAKEN took place in Winnipeg, Selkirk, Sagkeeng First Nation and The Pas in Manitoba; Victoria, Tsawout First Nation (recreations), Nanaimo, Vancouver in BC;  Toronto, Ontario; Whitehorse, Yukon; Slave Lake, Alberta; Fredericton, New Brunswick and North Battleford, Saskatchewan.TAKEN was made possible with the support of APTN, CMF, ISO, and Migizi Distribution.
