ABOUT THE HALFTIME FOOTBALL CHALLENGE UGL’s Halftime Football Challenge consists of a series of single-elimination tournaments (including either 32 or 64 players), with registered players walking away with exclusive giveaways and prizes. The ultimate victor of the 32 player tournament will win a $1500 cash prize while the winner of the 64 player bracket will take home $2500 in cash, and bragging rights as the best Madden player in the Bay Area. UGL’s events will ultimately position the best Madden 19 video game players in Northern California against one another in a battle of wits, football knowledge, and skill. ABOUT THE ULTIMATE GAMING LEAGUE The Ultimate Gaming League was founded by Brad Flewellen and Chuck Johnson to foster diversity in the technology/gaming space through events and education. As gamers themselves, Flewellen and Johnson will utilize their experiences in event planning and entertainment management to make the UGL a success. Local creatives should recognize Flewellen from his artist advocacy work with his online music platform ZoN26. For four years Flewellen helped local hip-hop and R&B artists showcase their music all over the Bay Area. UGL’s co-founder Chuck Johnson also has a storied history in entertainment and local activism. Oakland natives may remember him from his work on Soul Beat, but he has also spearheaded multiple projects for Showtime, BET, and the NFL as CEO of the Chuck Johnson Company. Johnson’s love for entertainment and technology motivated him to connect with Flewellen to create a platform that targets experienced gamers of all ages. UGL aims to take the already successful E-Sports format and infuse it with a hip-hop twist, providing better venues and celebrity hosts from the worlds of music and professional sports. Plans to expand to hosting tournaments for other video games as well as coordinate events designed to teach children how to create video games are currently in the works. Proceeds from UGL events will be donated to the David E. Glover Education and Technology Center, an East Oakland based technology program that teaches kids how to code.
