Happy Monday from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival! The temperatures remain chilly in Park City, but the films keep heating up! Today Ayo Edebiri, André Holland, Bowen Yang, Ben Whishaw, Rebecca Hall, Lucas Hedges, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Nicole Beharie, DeWanda Wise, Kelly Marie Tran, Joan Chen, Stephanie Suganami, and more participated in their film premieres and delighted audience members with insightful Q&As. 

 

In partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the 2025 Sundance Film Festival presented the juried Feature Film Prize to Cristina Costantini for her work on SALLY. Additionally, the recipients of three artist grants designed to support projects in development were announced: Ella Gale was awarded the Sloan Episodic Fellowship for Greenwashers, Katla Sólnes received the Sloan Development Fellowship for Eruption, and Brittany Wang was granted the Sloan Commissioning Grant for Thin Ice. The filmmakers collectively received a total of $84,000 in cash prizes and were honored at a reception hosted by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in Park City.

JANUARY 27 HIGHLIGHTS

 

  • PREMIERES INCLUDE:

    • OPUS

      • The horror thriller features cast members Ayo Edebiri, making her Sundance Film Festival debut, John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlet, and director Mark Anthony Green, making his feature directorial debut, all of whom attended the premiere’s press line and took part in the Q&A

      • Mark Anthony Green (talking about how we discovered Ayo Edebiri): “A good friend of mine is here tonight, Lionel Boyce, from The Bear. I was working at GQ and Lionel is in the show ‘The Bear’ and they sent me screeners early. So I've known Ayo through Lionel and always thought she was really cool but had never seen her in anything and then I was like ‘Holy sh*t this is Ariel.’ Then I did what you're not supposed to do and mailed [the screener] to our executive at A24 and I was like this is her.”

    • THE WEDDING BANQUET

      • Making his Sundance Film Festival debut, Bowen Yang,joined fellow cast members Kelly Marie Tran, Joan Chen, Youn Yuh-jung, Han Gi-chan, and director Andrew Ahn at the premiere’s press line and post screening Q&A

    • PETER HUJAR'S DAY

      • Ben Whishaw, Rebecca Hall,and director Ira Sachs attended the premiere’s press line and Q&A. 

    • LOVE, BROOKLYN

      • Returning to Sundance Film Festival for the third time,  André Holland, alongside cast members Nicole Beharie, DeWanda Wise, Roy Wood Jr., Cassandra Freeman, and director Rachael Abigail Holder attended the premiere’s press line and took part in a Q&A. 

    • HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY

      • Director Sam Feder’s timely documentary was attended by the film’s subject, civil rights attorney, Chase Strangio, and producers Amy Scholder and Paola Mendoza, and director Sam Feder who participated in the premiere’s press line and took part in the Q&A 

    • FREE LEONARD PELTIER

      • In the wake of Leonard Peltier’s pardon, the film by Jesse Short Bull and David France is especially significant. In addition to the directors, several film subjects including Holly Macarro, Nick Tilsen, and Dino Butler attended the premiere’s press line and Q&A 

    • BLKNWS: TERMS & CONDITIONS

      • Director Kahlil Joseph returned to Sundance with the latest iteration of his visionary documentary project. Joseph attended the premiere’s press line and took part in the post screening Q&A
